3. Use Public Transportation & Ride Hailing Services
One expense that is easily avoided on most college campuses is a car payment (along with the related costs of car ownership, such as insurance, fuel, and ongoing maintenance). If your school or town offers a public transportation system, use it! Depending on how close you live to campus and work, you may be able to get by without ever setting foot in a car. If you are seeking a bit more freedom than the public transportation system offers, buy a bicycle or use ride hailing services like Uber and Lyft. Should you absolutely need to use a car – say, to see your favorite band playing in the next state over – you can always rent a car for a day or two.
