Tips for Creating a High-Converting Call-to-Action (CTA)

Digital marketing is a progressive industry and as a marketer one of your biggest responsibilities is to make sure that you create effective advertisements that will lead to sales.

There are many factors affecting the customers’ decision on whether they will pursue with the purchase or not; it could be internal or external, but one thing is for sure—you call-to-action is one of them.

Call-to-Action is part of a marketing strategy that intends to let your potential customers know what specific action you want them to do with regard to your campaign. Essentially, your CTA has to be captivating both textually and visually.

Below are some of the useful tips that you can help you create effective, compelling, and high-converting call-to-action.

1. Use a strong command verb

In creating your CTA, you don’t have to use long and flowery phrases. In fact, what makes a CTA attention-grabbing is its use of strong command verbs.

Most marketing campaigns use words as simple as Buy Now or Click Subscribe and from those words alone they have already sent their message of what they want their potential customers to do.

Say you are selling a pair of white sneakers. If your CTA says “Check our latest white sneakers collection” the tendency would be for the customers to only look at the product, but if you say “Buy a pair of our newest white sneakers today!” it appears to be more direct and has stronger command.

2. Use words that enable emotional triggers

When it comes to emotions, what you want your potential customers to feel is the enthusiasm and willingness to perform the said action. Writing effective CTA can also give them a good sense of security.

For instance, you can trigger their excitement by writing “Buy 5 lip balms today and get 20% off on your next purchase.” Especially if they plan on purchasing again from your shop, this CTA is definitely an effective one.

Another example of a CTA that can trigger their emotions is Save trees by going paperless. Download our latest brochure now. Surely, a person who cares about the environment will happily download your brochure as fast as the speed of light.

3. Create a Sense of Urgency

Aside from using strong command verbs, creating a sense of urgency also helps generate high click-through-rates, which can then lead to a high volume of sales. You can use phrases such as the following:

  • Buy now
  • Avail our 50% off today
  • Promo ends today, buy your new pair of glasses now

4. Get Fancy With Button Graphics

Aside from investing in highly compelling texts, visually-appealing graphics is also a huge factor in making sure that you create a high-converting call-to-action (as seen on banner advertising platforms such as Ads-Supply, AdsTerra, etc.).

Compared to simply adding a link or a bare text saying “Purchase one now”, a CTA with eye-catching buttons and captivating designs will more likely to get more clicks than the former.

So, remember a high-converting CTA is a combination of both engaging texts and visuals.

Depending on your marketing strategy, you can have a different approach to creating your CTA. At the end of the day, it all boils down to which generates more clicks and drives higher volume of sales.
