How to Get Better at Sales: Know Your Buyer Persona

If you want to know how to get better at sales, you need to know to whom you’re selling.

The facts remain clear: people buy products that relate to them and fulfill their needs. Of course, it might be technically possible to sell someone something when you know very little about them, but your likelihood is much lower.

So, before you pitch a product to a client, do a little research. Find out a little bit about who the client is. Are they a business owner who runs a terrific company that could improve with your products? Tailor your sales pitch to them.

What If You Don’t Have Time to Figure It Out?

But what if you don’t have time to research someone? Sometimes, you might need to make sales without much information. To handle situations like this, ask the customer a simple question: “What do you hope to get out of this product?”

This will give you a good idea of the nature of their need, and you can market to them based on that.

Be Empathetic

Did you know that empathy is a key to selling well?

People love people and companies that relate to their lives and make them feel seen. So, when speaking to a client, make sure you take an empathetic, customer-first approach.

Showing genuine human interest in your clients will go a long way.

Know Everything About Your Product

As a salesperson, you need to know everything about your product.

If you don’t know everything, that should be your first step to becoming a better salesperson. After all, you won’t be able to effectively tailor your sales pitch to a client if you don’t know everything about the product.

You should also be able to answer as many client questions as possible. The more you know about your product, the more questions you’ll be able to answer.

Develop a Measurable, Repeatable Pitch

While you can still tailor elements of your pitch to a client, you should have a measurable, repeatable outline.

What does that mean?

In this case, measurable means that it’s easy for you to analyze after the fact. Did a specific part of your pitch elicit the correct response in a client? If it doesn’t, make a note of it. If it fails repeatedly, revamp that section.

Your pitch should also be repeatable. You should be able to use it with most of your clients without the use of your notes. Because of this, it’s better for you to craft a simple outline rather than a complex one.

When you’re busy crafting your pitch, you likely don’t have a ton of time to be held back by your commission management system. Luckily, there’s a solution for that. Check out Cloud First Labs for more information!
