For the people who travel many times by air, perhaps they would agree with me that there isn’t any other modes of transportation as boring as air ways. No matter how good the in-flight services becomes, the truth shall always remain that Airways is the most boring sort of transportation (unless of course you’re travelling in a Boeing 777 Dreamliner or Airbus A380 series of aircrafts). But if this new technology could be applied, it might not be that boring at all!
Often the only entertainment in the flight is to look out through the windows. Thing is, windows in aircrafts are very small and doesn’t help you to give a wider picture view. But what if there were no windows at all? And instead, there were a LED screen which could give a Panoramic view of the skies, giving you the literal feeling of flying through the clouds?
This is actually no longer a dream but not completely a reality either. Paris-based design company Technicon Design recently won an award for their IXION Windowless Jet Concept. The idea is to provide a 360-degree view using cameras mounted on the plane’s exterior to capture the scenery and then project that on high-res screen on the interior cabin walls and ceiling.
“The ethos of the project is simple, to challenge current thinking, and propose something a little different, but not just a fantasy. It has to be credible and relevant, yet provoke discussion,” design director Gareth Davies had stated in a press release.
Now let us see the advantages of not having windows at all. Firstly, it reduces cost to install that many windows and replacing them with an LED screen is much more better. Also designing the interior of the aircraft becomes a much simpler job if there aren’t any windows. But then again, if there aren’t any windows, doesn’t that mean there aren’t any emergency exits either? A point to wonder
