Telepathy, it’s a word that has been fascinating us since a long time. Some of us claim it to be a reality while the others claim it to be nothing but mythology. The later sections of people choose to believe things only when you have a proof of it. But the former section do have a good point, just because you cannot understand it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. Ok, I’m starting to sound like a Buddhist monk.
But all jokes apart, Telepathy isn’t no more a fiction and has been actually proven. So what is telepathy you might ask? Well, have you seen X-men? There’s a guy named Prof. Charles Xavier. He has the power of the mind and can know what other people are thinking. Well, telepathy isn’t exactly like that, and what it means simply is that you can communicate to another person by mind itself, without having to speak out words. By the way, did you know words aren’t the most important cues picked up by the other person when you’re talking it to him?
Perhaps that is why they say words have no value.
Anyway, did I just say that it’s no more a fiction? Well, my words have value and when I told that Telepathy is now a reality, I meant it!
In an experiment conducted by a team of research scientists, these guys have sent a ‘mental message’ from one person to another who are geographically distant by a factor of 4,000 miles away in what they claim is the world’s first successful telepathy experiment.
So how was the experiment carried out? Well, they connected one person in Mumbai, India, to a wireless headset linked to the internet, and another person to a similar device in Paris. When the first person merely thought of a greeting such as ‘ciao’, Italian for ‘hello’, the recipient in France was aware of the thought occurring, according to a report in the journal PLOS One.
Note it: He was aware of the thought occurring, he didn’t get to know that he actually was trying to speak the word ‘hello’.
The subject who was receiving the message could not comprehend the word itself. So how did the researchers understand what word did he receive during the process? Well, you see when you speak a word, a part of your brain lights up. So by studying this lighting, you could predict what word had he heard during the experiment.
So while he couldn’t make out the word but he could report flashes of light in their brain that corresponded to the exact moment when the word ‘ciao’ was being thought.
The experiment was carried out by experts from Harvard University, who claim it shows technology can be used to transmit information from one person’s brain to another.
See, when I told telepathy is now a reality, I did mean it. So while you may have many advantages over telepathy, I think there’s one distinct feature which could turn out to be both an advantage and a disadvantage according to which side of the conversation you are in. It’ll be hard to tell lies in telepathy unless you’re a skilled professional in lying which frankly most of us aren’t.
