Today, Internet became a most trust able place and sources for variety of information, businesses and startups. According to me, Internet is one of the powerful industry at this time but it became industry only after years of processing and it also involves various banking and shopping sites which includes millions of passwords, credit card numbers and other financial details of millions of people.
But what happen, when a monster enter into the country and messes everything and the same situation is happened with Internet. According to a latest research and multiple reports, a bug named “Heartbleed” which is basically a software-bug in the open-source cryptography library OpenSSL and may be dangerous to the security of person.
In short, Heartbleed affects the encryption technology designed to protect online accounts for email, instant messaging and e-commerce and this bug was discovered by Finnish security firm Codenomicon and Neel Mehta of Google security.
And in order to take some preventive measures, a fixed version of Open SSL has been released but it depends upon the administrator of different sites whether they’re going to fix it or not. We would recommend you to take an initial stand against this bug by changing your password on any kind of site whether it is online banking or shopping site.
In addition to this, according to a latest report from Bloomberg , it has been claimed that National Security Agency knew about this bug for more than two years and used it regularly to gather critical intelligence.
“If the NSA knows about a vulnerability, then often other nation states and even criminal organizations can exploit the same security vulnerability,” said Harley Geiger, senior counsel for the Center for Democracy & Technology in Washington. “What may be a good tool for the NSA may also turn out to be a tool for organizations that are less ethical or have no ethics at all.”
