It can now be confirmed that the Indian Telecom company of Bharati Airtel have launched a music streaming app named Wynk, for smartphones which has a database of over a 1.7 million songs, which includes all genres including Hollywood, Pop, International Hits and of course, Bollywood and Hindi.
Much can be speculated about this launch but one thing is for sure, with this launch, Bharati Airtel has now become the first telecom service operator in India to introduce an over-the-top (OTT) mobile application in the Indian telecom market, which if sources are to be believed, will work across mobile operators, enabling customers to stream, download and buy songs, said Gopalan who is the Director.
For the success of this paid app, the company will look forward to the smartphone consumers. He said the company has 200 million customers, out of which 35-40 million use smartphones.

“In India, Internet is predominantly on mobile. This music application Wynk can be used in both Android and iOS platforms from today,” Srinivasan Gopalan, director, consumer business of the company was found stating in the launch.
“With the proliferation of smartphones in the country, mobile phones have emerged as the most preferred platform when it comes to experiencing music on the go and accounts for almost 85-90 percent of total digital consumption,” he said.
“We are introducing this segment to Wynk – an innovative platform that blends technology and music and present a whole new dimension to music uptake in the country,” Gopalan further added.
