Before 2014, when we use to talk about high-end smartphones, then few common names were either Samsung’s Galaxy S Series, LG’s G smartphones, iPhone, or Sony’s Xperia.
But that’s not the case anymore in 2017, OnePlus, Shenzen-based startup right after its first ever ‘OnePlus One’ smartphone launch in 2014 just took away the mid-range market from market leaders.
And now in 2017 after the successful run of OnePlus 3 and 3T, the company has officially announced the OnePlus 5 globally on June 20th.
Surprisingly OnePlus is one of the subsidiaries of BBK Electronics alongside with Vivo and Oppo. And you would be shocked to know that Vivo and Oppo are doing nothing but just showcasing their funny skills in exaggerating the selfie quotient of the smartphones. More importantly, OnePlus is not at all like their sister companies as the company has managed to bring some amazing high-end innovation in their smartphones at reasonable pricing.

Coming to the point, OnePlus 5 is here to grab but different people have different opinions about the device as some are saying its replica of iPhone 7 plus and some are quoting ‘OnePlus is running out of idea’.
So here I am going to elaborate 5 reasons you should buy OnePlus 5 in 2017 without giving a second thought:
1. Specs (superior to G6 and at par with S8 or XZ Premium)
Yes, that’s the fact, OnePlus is offering insanely awesome specs in their 5th edition that are more or less able to outperform the spec sheet of players like HTC U11, Galaxy S8, iPhone 7 Plus, and Sony Xperia XZ Premium.
The device is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and comes in 6GB of RAM along with 64GB of storage and 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage with a maximum clock speed of 2.45GHz, and coupled Adreno 540 GPU. Comparing to its previous generation ‘3T’ now it feels thinner and lighter. It comes with 5.5-inch Full HD display and dual-camera setup similar to the iPhone 7 Plus.
2. Battery Life (can easily eat up the competition)
For me personally, the battery life of a smartphone is the most crucial parameter while considering one. And I guarantee you OnePlus 5 is the king in this particular department as the device boasts 3300 mAH battery that can last you for an entire day even with power use.
The icing on the cake ‘Dash Charge’, yes, OnePlus’s dash charging technology is the most practical solution to fast charging at this moment. And you can easily get 60% charge in only 30 minutes that is insanely great.
Adding to that, the OnePlus 5 model don’t have Quad HD display, no bloatware, and running stock android which ensures a strong battery life. It can simply outperform other flagship devices in this particular segment.
3. Camera (it is improved and better than iPhone 7 Plus in many aspects)
OenPlus has managed to fulfill the requirement of customers in its previous generation smartphones but a good camera was missing here and there. With OnePlus 5, the company attempted to overcome the lack of camera competency by introducing dual camera setup.
You can check the detailed comparison of iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5 camera by SuperSaf TV on YouTube:
As far as the camera spec goes, it sports a 16-megapixel main camera (Sony IMX398 sensor, 1.12-micron pixels) with a f/1.7 aperture, coupled with a 20-megapixel telephoto camera (Sony IMX350 sensor, 1-micron pixels) with a f/2.6 aperture supported by a dual-LED flash module.
On the front, it has a 16-megapixel front camera with a 1-micron pixel Sony IMX371 sensor, a f/2.0 aperture, and EIS.
Without going into detailing, I can give you an idea about camera performance; its camera takes greats pictures in natural bright environments that are equivalent in quality to the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7. But in low-lighting condition, the Galaxy S8 despite having the same aperture can capture better shots.
The speed itself is sufficient enough to make you buy the OnePlus 5. It is without a doubt faster than any flagship smartphone out there be it iPhone 7, LG G6, Google Pixel, or even Galaxy S8.
The device boasts top-notch internals such as Snapdragon 835 Soc and up to 8GB of RAM with a maximum clock speed of 2.45GHz, and coupled Adreno 540 GPU. Though S8 features the same processor but still due to animations it can’t get as snappy as the five.
Even after packing some high-end specs, the device doesn’t heat up at all and that’s the significant point, thanks to the Oxygen OS, Stock-android, and no bloatware.
5. Design & Durability (it is not what you are thinking)
When the first time OnePlus 5 leaks came out, it did disappoint OnePlus fans across the globe for its resemblance to the iPhone 7 Plus and Oppo R11.
But that’s not the whole story, the phone comes with the most practical design with some great metallic materials which makes it the top notch in terms of design.
Though the device is not water or dust proof, it is water/dust resistant to a certain extent. And while buying a device, you should be aware of the durability and interestingly OnePlus 5 is durable and can easily last for coming years. You can check the detailed OnePlus 5 durability test by the YouTuber JerryRigEverything here:
In day to day use, you will be surprised to feel the super comfort of the device.
And talking about the display, the company followed the same approach of 3T by bringing full HD display (1080×1920 pixels) along with Optic AMOLED display supporting sRGB and DCI-P3 color standards and is protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass.
The reason for keeping it full HD was the battery enhancement purpose and that’s the practical approach. And trust me you’ll not be going to notice the difference of full HD and Quad HD as the OnePlus 5 delivers vibrant and bright color display.
