Here is the latest report that Facebook has acquires Face.com, a technology company operating the leading face recognition platform.

We reported about this acquisition on May 28th but at that time, this report was considered as a rumor but now everything is clear.

Previously the deal’s value was  $80 Million to $100 Million approx but after this final acquisition of Face.com from Facebook, the deal isn’t disclosed by them.

On this acquisition CEO of Face.com Gil Hirsch wrote in company’s blog that “Like our friends at Facebook, we think that mobile is a critical part of people’s lives as they both create and consume content,

and share content with their social graph. By working with Facebook directly, and joining their team, we’ll have more opportunities to build amazing products that will be employed by consumers -– that’s all we’ve ever wanted to do,”

Face.com, builds facial recognition software that is not only highly accurate, but also works efficiently at web-scale. Their facial recognition analytics are able to identify faces well, despite difficult circumstances like poor lighting, poor focus, subjects wearing eyeglasses, facial hair, and even Halloween costumes.

Face recognition isn’t just for the government or in the movies – you can use it yourself in all kinds of ways, from tagging photos to social networking.
